CJ awards nominee who took on illicit liquor sale

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: Pradeep Bhatia, one of the nominees for the CNN-IBN's Citizen Journalist Awards, exposed how a tea stall was selling illicit liquor on the Independence day right next to a police station at Mira road in Mumbai.

What was shocking that the tea stall was operating right next to the Kashimira Police Station on Independence Day.

Pradeep took photographs of the bar functioning under the garb of a tea stall. He filed a complaint at the police station next door and an FIR was registered against the Saroj Tea stall owner.

Not one to give up easily, Pradeep Bhatia joined the CJ team to follow up if action had been taken on his complaint. Even 3 days after the FIR had been filed, alcohol sale was on in broad daylight.

Angered by the police inaction, Pradeep Bhatia decided to confront the tea stall owners himself. Later he met senior inspector Anil Patil who promised that the action will be taken this time against the tea stall.

At last Pradeep Bhatia's efforts paid off and the the police was forced to take action against the culprits. They raided the tea stall and seized crates of beer and country liquor, precious evidence to back the FIR that had been lodged.
