Robbed and stabbed almost a week back in Australia, 25-year-old Baljinder Singh is recovering fast. He is now advising those looking to study in Australia to demand their right to security. He spoke to CNN-IBN Citizen Journalist Arshdeep.
Excerpts from the interview:
Citizen Journalist: Baljinder Singh, how are you feeling now?
Baljinder: I am alright, but feeling a little bit of pain because of my stitches.
Citizen Journalist: I know this is painful but can you tell us what exactly happened on that day?
Baljinder: I reached around 10:30 at Carnegie Station. I walked 50 metres out of the station. I saw two guys. They had knives in their hands. They asked me have you got any money? I said I am giving you my money, just hang on I am giving you my purse. Then one of the guys stabbed me in my stomach. They just laughed at me and walked away.
Citizen Journalist: So they were not on drugs, they were not drunk?
Baljinder: Yes.
Citizen Journalist: Do you believe you were attacked because you are an Indian?
Baljinder: Australians think that Indian students are very easy target. That's why they are doing these things.
Citizen Journalist: Have you faced any racial discrimination in Australia before this?
Baljinder: No, this is the first time.
Citizen Journalist: Do you have anything to say to the authorities in Australia?
Baljinder: Please give some security to Indian students.
Citizen Journalist: Any message to Indian students who are planning to study in Australia?
Baljinder: First you have to ensure you get security. What security does the Australian government give you? You are giving lots of money to the Australian government, so that's your right.
Citizen Journalist: Are you planning to stay here in Australia or are you planning to go back to India?
Baljinder: I will go back to India in October or November. I didn't think about any of this. I will think later.
