CJI wary of misuse of judges' assets info

New Delhi: Just 48 hours after the Supreme Court judges unanimously passed a landmark resolution to disclose their assets publicly on their website, the Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan has expressed his reservations on the matter.

Speaking to the media, he said, ``I have still not shed the fear on the issue of disclosure of assets, '' implying that he feared that the information could be misused.

He also informed that even though all judges of the Supreme Court had given details of their wealth but it will take over a month’s time for information to be put out on the Apex Court website as judges were in the process of updating details of their assets.

On being asked whether the high court judges will follow their example, the Chief Justice said some high courts may take cue from them but some may not and he could not competent to advise them on the matter.

And on the contentious issue of whether the office of the CJI is within the purview of RTI, he said, `No' as most of the information his office held were confidential which cannot be divulged to the public.
