New Delhi: Claudio Ranieri is officially the new coach of Roma.

The former Juventus boss has stepped into the role afterLuciano Spalletti resigned earlier on Tuesday, a move that many expected as Ranieri was reportedly spotted in a meeting with president Rosella Sensi.

The news has also been confirmed by Ranieri's agent, Mattia Grassani, who claimed, "There is an agreement, tomorrow the signatures, his contract will be for two years."

Ranieri was in charge at Juventus last season, but sacked in the latter stages of the season following a period of poor form for the Bianconeri, who finished the season 10 points adrift of Inter in the title race.

The capital city outfit have started the Serie A season in lacklustre fashion, losing their opening two matches to Genoa and Juventus respectively.

Ranieri's main objective will be to help the club finish in the top four places, in order to regain entrance into the Champions League next season.
