Close shave for Delhi-bound GoAir passengers

New Delhi: A Delhi-bound GoAir Airbus A-320, with 117 passengers and crew on board, developed a technical snag in its nosewheel but landed safely at the IGI Airport in New Delhi on Thursday amid full emergency conditions.

The passengers were a relieved lot after the plane made a safe landing.

"God save us," an old lady passenger said.

GoAir's flight No. 456 had left for Delhi from Mumbai on Thursday evening and while mid air, the crew realised that one of the tyres had gone flat. Immediately, the pilot issued emergency instructions.

"We were asked to shift our seats to the 14th row and after that they tried landing. It was then they realised that the problem was in the wheel and we took off again and all emergency preparations were made. We landed back in an hour’s time," another passenger, Neelu Kohli, said.

Worried relatives of the passengers could be seen waiting outside the airport.

"The moment I got her mobile through, she was crying and said ‘I think we had a belly landing’. There were many fire brigade vehicles and police personnel," a relative of a female passenger said.

The passengers, too, were grateful to have a safe touchdown.

"Today is Dussehra and nothing has happened," another passenger added.

Meanwhile, GoAir authorities said that the reason for the technical problem will be investigated in cooperation with the agencies involved and also the manufacturer of the plane.
