Pattaya: Golf is on an upswing in India and club golf has emerged as one of the biggest gainers this year as both interest and investment are at an all-time high.
Golf is amongst the fastest growing sports in India and 2007 has truly emerged as a year that saw a tremendous development for the sport at every level.
One of the biggest gainer this year was the Club Golf Championship as the McDowell's Club Golf Championship celebrated its sixth successive year at the scenic Burapha Golf Course in Pattaya.
"I think it gives an opportunity to all the club golfers to play together at a high level. This just brings forth a feeling opf competition," says Gaurav Ghosh, member of the RCGC.
The event is a typical case study of how serious golfers have become for club golf in India as a typical event is not just about serious golfing. There is ample smattering of fun and glamour, and the presence of celebrities to keep the tempo high.
Clearly, 2008 promises a lot more investment and interest as far as the development of club golf in India is concerned.
