Chavan wanted Karan Johar to come to him: Raj

Nasik (Maharashtra): As Maharashtra gears up for the Assembly elections, the war of words gets bitter between the politicians.

In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray hit out at Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on his comment over Karan Johar issue.

Director-producer Karan Johar had gone to Thackeray to apologise for referring Mumbai as Bombay in his recent release Wake Up Sid.

The MNS had threatened to disrupt the screening of the film over this reference.

Reacting to this, Chavan had said that Johar should have gone to the police and not to Raj Thackeray.

Taking on Chavan, the MNS chief said, “It seems that the CM wanted Karan Johar to come to him so that he can show his family that movie stars come to him. If Madras is called Chennai and Trivandrum called Thiruvananthapuram in all movies, why not Mumbai?”

“They should be ashamed that only I speak on behalf of Marathi people to protect their pride,” he added.

Meanwhile, a large crowd gathered at Thackeray’s rally in Nasik on Tuesday where he brought up the migrant issue and spoke against film producers for not calling Mumbai by its correct name .

The MNS chief plans to hold more such rallies in Pune and Mumbai in the last leg of campaign for the upcoming elections.
