Mumbai: It was an emotional moment for these families of 26/11 martyrs as the Petroleum Ministry allotted LPG and CNG dealership outlets at an official function to pay tribute to the men-in-uniform.
Eighteen families of the Mumbai Police and two families of NSG commandos were given the allotment letters.
“I am really grateful to Petroleum Ministry because they have helped in solving our problem,” says wife of slain constable Gajendra Singh, Vinita Bisht.
“Very proud that my son is being appreciated. I’ll go home and see that he has been honoured by the nation,” says father of slain Ashok Kamate Marutirao Kamte.
Interestingly, slain Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan's father plans to donate the proceeds of the dealership outlet to the Army Welfare Association.
“If it is managed very well. In my case, I wont be able to attend to it full time, so will donate it to Army Welfare Association,” says K Unikrishnan.
Despite questions being raised about the function being “a Congress only” event, the Maharashtra Chief Minister dismissed any such attempts by the party.
“This is not a political function,” says Chief Minister Ashok Chavan.
The Government also plans to set up a dormant fund for the education of the slain policemen's children to secure their future and as a lifelong tribute to the heroes of 26/11.
