CNN-IBN bags Best News TV award

Mumbai: CNN-IBN was on Saturday adjudged the Best English News channel at the Hero Honda Indian Television Academy Awards — the country's most prestigious televison awards.

Launched less than a year ago, the channel won two other awards in the news genre.

Missing in Action, a documentary on soldiers from both India and Pakistan who remain untraceable, bagged two awards — the best Non-fiction TV Documentary and Koteshwar Rao was awarded for Best Editing in the Non-fiction category.

CNN-IBN Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai was given the best TV host award. But the icing on the cake was CNN-IBN getting best English News Channel Award.

"Thanks. I accept this on behalf of the CNN-IBN team. We're a very young team, we have a passion for journalism. Only one thing that wins out — journalism," Editor-in-Chief of CNN-IBN, Rajdeep Sardesai said as he accepted the award.

Joint Managing Director of CNN-IBN, Sameer Manchanda said: "It's a great honour for CNN-IBN to get the award in its first year. All thanks to Rajdeep and all members of IBN and the TV18 family who have worked hard for such a great success."

The glittering awards night, organised at Mumbai's Bhawan College grounds was attended by most of the top stars of the television industry.

Celebrities attending the event, which is considered the most prestigious for the TV industry, added words of praise and encouragement for CNN-IBN.

"From my association with CNN-IBN, I've learnt that a lot of creative people work there," Kailash Kher, a singer said. Among other present at the occassion was television artiste Mandira Bedi. "The only news channel that I consistently follow and enjoy watching is CNN-IBN," she said.
