New Delhi: CNN-IBN has won the inaugural M S Oberoi Media Awards in the Gold and Silver categories for its stories exposing corruption.
Rohit Khanna and Sidhartha Gautam of CNN-IBN’s Special Investigation Team won Gold and Silver respectively for their stories exposing corrupt Uttar Pradesh MLAs and a Rs 3,600-crore racket in a government-owned national cooperative.
Khanna’s story exposed MLAs of a wide range of UP parties willing to take as little as Rs 5,000 for facilitating drug trade or fixing transfers.
Gautam’s report showed how NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India) diverted Rs 3,600 crore of taxpayers' money to import petroleum products and minerals.
The M S Oberoi Media Awards were instituted this year and will be given to print and electronic media journalists for stories exposing corruption. Six journalists will get the awards this time.
The awards have been instituted by the Indian chapter of Transparency International, a worldwide organisation that fights corruption.
Six journalists of print and electronic media won the inaugural awards, which include a citation and cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh for the first and second positions.
