New Delhi: The CNBC India Business Leader Awards ceremony, held on Thursday, was attended by people who make India's business world go round. The channel also celebrated its seventh anniversary on Thursday.
And to have their own slice of the cake, CNN-IBN also launched an award—the Indian of the Year award. This award will be a first of its kind in the country.
The awards will felicitate Indians who've shaped independent India and are a symbol of the future. The nomination would be from varied fileds including politics, spirituality, entertainment or sports.
"Credibility and comprehensiveness is what will make this the most distinctive award that the country will have seen uptil now," CNN-IBN Editor-in-Chief, Rajdeep Sardesai said.
A group of influential leaders will choose the winners through a rigorous selection process and the final decision will be ratified by the viewer. The award will celebrate India's achievements, and her modern superheroes.
"It's very important to recognise achievements of individual Indians in all spheres. I congratulate CNN-IBN for coming up with this idea," Chairman of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, said.
Like the Time Magazine's Man of the year award, the Indian of the Year award may soon become the bench mark award of the year.
