New Delhi: The year 2006 is on its way out and CNN-IBN focusses on some of the people who made India proud this year.
The first of its kind in India, this is the biggest celebration of citizenship in Indian television history—the CNN-IBN Indian of the year award.
The award is the highest individual civilian honour in the fields of politics, business, sports, entertainment and public service. There is also an award for the Global Indian.
Here's how the selection process works — first our editorial team will draw a list of nominees in each category. Then, to make sure we haven't missed out anyone important, a five member advisory council will then ratify the final list.
The advisory council includes Padmashri Geet Sethi — six times World Billiards Champion; Padma Vibhushan Soli Sorabjee, former attorney general of India;
Padma Bhushan Nandan Nilekani, CEO of Infosys Technologies; Padma Bhushan Deepak Parekh, Chairman of HDFC and Padma Shri Kiran Bedi, a Magsaysay award winner.
And the best part of the award is that you get to decide the winners. SMS us at 2622 or vote online at our website ibnlive.com. A 250-member electoral college with achievers from all walks of life will help you.
Your votes will carry a 50 per cent weightage. One of the world's most credible auditing firm, Ernst and Young will ensure the entire process, from nominations to the final declaration, is above board.
Nominees who make the final list will be made public on the first of January. That's when you begin voting and it will end on the January 13.
The winners will be announced between January 21 and 26 in a glittering ceremony on the February 10. We will declare who made us the most proud in the year gone by the CNN-IBN Indian of the year.
