New Delhi: Dr Anil Prakash Joshi, one of CNN-IBN's Real Heroes, is now cycling down the length of the country for the sake of the Indian farmers.
Calling the journey 'Agri Yatra', he hopes to send across the message that the farmers need a lot more than a one-time loan exemption.
Dr Joshi is a social worker whose previous efforts resulted in more than 1000 villages getting access to hydro electricity in Uttrakhand.
Joshi and his team are currently cycling from Kanyakumari to Dehradun. Their aim is to create awareness about the problems faced by the farmers.
"Three major problems need to be addressed. One is decreasing productivity of the land, SEZ issue and need to start a farmer's bank," Joshi says.
Joshi's 10-member team also has three women who represent the neglected female farmers of India.
"Women farmers more in number. They are over 60 per cent of the farmers but they no shares in the income. They are a neglected lot," Nisha Rathore, a member of Joshi's team, says.
Dr Joshi's 'Agri Yatra' started from Kanyakumari on January 12. So far the team has covered a stretch of 3,800 kms. On the way they have collected opinions, memories and also water and soil from more than 7000 villages they have crossed so far.
The rally is all set to end in Uttarakhand in a few days time. After which Dr Joshi will present his report to the policy makers in New Delhi.
Not an easy ride but Dr Joshi wishes to cover 4000 kms by the end of the rally.
