Coimbatore: A 24-year-old youth was arrested on charges of attempting to rape a minor girl in nearby Tirupur, police said on Sunday. The accused took the 8-year-old minor girl to a lonely spot and tried to sexually abuse her, the police added.
The youth had spotted the girl, who had come to Tirupur along with her parents from Delhi, playing on the verandah of the lodge they were staying in, police said. The girl, when the accused tried to rape her, screamed loudly and attracted her parents' attention.
Neighbours in nearby rooms caught and handed over the youth to police on Saturday. The youth, a generator mechanic, was arrested and remanded to custody, police said.
