KEONJHAR: A jawan of the District Voluntary Force (DVF) was killed by the Maoists during a joint combing operation by the CRPF, Special Operation Group and DVF at Birikala reserve forest under Nayakote police limits on Tuesday morning. The area is on the Keonjhar-Angul border, sources said.
Western range DIG Jaswant Jethwa said the jawan, Ajay Kumar Sahoo, is a native of Thakurpatana under Keonjhar Town police limits.
The body of Ajay was brought to Keonjhar district headquarter hospital at about 11.30 am by his kin.
Sahoo joined the armed reserve police force in 2006 and completed the special operation training in the Maoist operation group, said his father Ajoy Gajendra Sahoo. The news has come as a huge shock for his mother, with whom he had chat over phone on Monday evening, he added. After a postmortem the body was taken to reserve police ground where senior police officers gave a guard of
honour.
The DIG said the bereaved family would get ` 8 lakh as ex gratia, ` 10 lakh insurance and salary till date of superannuation besides other assistance as per government norms.
Birmaharajpur (Sonepur):
Security personnel have started combing operation in Durjontala, Dadarpali and Buroghat under Birmaharajpur on Monday.
Last week, Maoist posters were found in these areas. On Saturday, a poster, informing the villagers about a meeting of the CPI (Maoist) to be held in the village, was found in Bahgabat Tungi in Dadarpali
village.
Birmaharajpur Sub Divisional Police Officer Balabhadra Deep said combing was being conducted at regular intervals but he was clueless about the present operation.
