Coming soon: Movie on Thackeray family feud

Mumbai: A movie on the Thackeray family feud is slated to hit theatres soon.

After Ram Gopal Verma's Sarkaar and Sarkaar Raj, another movie based on the Thackeray family feud has found its way into the Bollywood.

Now filmmaker Avdhoot Gupte is experimenting with the theme and has come up with a film based on one of the biggest political feuds in the country's political history.

The movie has already generated much curiosity, not only amongst Maharashtrians but people in other states.

Thackeray vs Thackeray was the biggest talking point in the recent elections in Maharahstra and the drama generated by the two cousins - Uddhav and Raj - during the campaign and even post elections, seems irresistible to moviemakers.

"I just wanted to show what is happening. I am not suggesting what should happen or any conclusion. I just wanted to tell the inside story about the status," says musician and filmmaker Avdhoot Gupte.

Shiv Sena in the past has been very wary of party chief Balasaheb Thackeray or any of the leaders being portrayed as characters in films or on Marathi stage but Avdhoot's relationship with the Thackerays made it easier for him

"I have been very close to Balasaheb Thackeray, Udhdhav and even Raj Thackray for a long time. They trust me. Moreover, they respect an artist because they are also artistes and they respect the freedom of expression," adds Gupte,

And Mumbaikars who have been witness to the whole Shiv Sena- MNS drama, are looking forward to the portrayal.

In the past Marathi film makers have always stayed away from controversial subjects such as the one handled in Jhenda but now with Sena insiders like Avdhoot Gupte daring to put it on the big screen, hopefully cinegoers will now get to see more of the political reality of our times, on the silver screen.
