New Delhi: Where porn goes others follow. The winners of the video format battles were decided by the choice of the adult entertainment industry. If history is any indicator, then 3D television broadcast is going mainstream, soon.
FriendFinder Network that owns Penthouse men's magazine has announced the launch of Penthouse 3D, the first 3D porn channel. The new channel will will feature adult-oriented programming shot in native high definition and 3D.
"We started shooting in 3D this past summer, and have significantly invested to perfect 3D production quality," said Marc Bell, CEO of FriendFinder Networks.
The channel will be available for broadcast before the second half of 2011.
The 3D craze has exploded with viewers donning glasses to take in movie hits Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon. The world's first 3D porn movie 3D Sex And Zen, shot in Hong Kong, is also releasing this year.
The June 2010 issue of Playboy magazine had its Playmate of the Year, Hope Dworaczyk, in 3D on the centrefold.
But for 3D TV manufacturers the 3D craze didn't translate into desired sales figures. The lack of enough 3D content coupled with the need for glasses have been the main hurdles. Now with the likes of Penthouse going the 3D way and glasses-free 3D TVs announcing their arrival, the future of television could very well be in 3D.
