New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi on Thursday said his comments on Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav were his personal comments and the party line. "Janardhan Dwivedi just gave a statement. That statement is the party's line. I was addressing a public gathering, was not briefing the media," Alvi said.
This came after Alvi called Mulayam a 'BJP agent'. "I have been saying this for the past 10 years that Mulayam Singh Yadav is one of the biggest agents of the BJP," Alvi said while speaking in Moradabad. Alvi's comment came despite the SP backing UPA's Presidential nominee Pranab Mukherjee.
Reacting to Alvi's comment, SP MP Shahid Siddiqui said that Alvi has always been anti-SP. "I hope he(Rashid Alvi) has consulted his party President Sonia Gandhi and other senior party leaders before make such a statement. Rashid Alvi is always anti-SP. He may be frustrated. He is no where in UP. He's making such statements to be in the limelight," Siddiqui said.
He however, said this won't affect SP's support to Congress.
The Congress also slammed Alvi for his comments. Congress leader Janardhan Dwivedi said, "We are always in favour of uniting secular forces. We do not approve of Alvi's comments."
