New Delhi: Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon is keen that Gen Musharraf sheds his General's uniform. McKinnon is on a three-day visit to India.
“We do expect President Musharraf to separate the office of President and that of operational Commander of the armed forces by the end of the year,” said McKinnon.
Meanwhile the expelled Pakistani political leaders are keen to return to Pakistan.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that he will come back in his country to lead the Opposition against Musharraf.
Sharif was tried and exiled from Pakistan, after Pervez Musharraf toppled his government in a coup in 2000.
Sharif has been trying hard since to return to the country and lead the Opposition against the Musharraf.
Nawaz Sharif makes it clear, that he intends to take the battle to Musharraf as soon as he can.
The recent crackdown on lawyers and the media in Pakistan has lent strength to exiled leaders like Sharif and former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto who have been actively opposing Musharraf’s rule.
Bhutto said her Pakistan People's Party and Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League will hold joint demonstrations in Pakistan on March 26 to protest against the crackdown.
