New Delhi: Commuters in Delhi will have to shell out more money from next Tuesday. The state government is increasing bus, auto and taxi fares. But passengers are wondering whether the fare hike will mean better services?
Travelling in Delhi follows one simple rule - survival of the fittest. Buses are crowded and many of the auto drivers simply don't follow the meter.
The going just got tougher for commuters. The state government is increasing fares for buses, autos, taxis and school cabs starting from Tuesday. However, the passengers don't mind paying extra.
Ashish Porwal who is a student says,” I don't mind paying the extra money but I don't think services will improve.”
So what are the new fares? For buses the fare is up from Rs 2 to Rs 3 for the first four kilometres. For auto rickshaws the fare for the first kilometre will be Rs 10 rupees now instead of Rs 8.
And for each additional kilometre you will be charged Re 1 more at Rs 4.50. For taxis the metre down will be Rs 15 and after that you will be paying Rs 8.50 per kilometre, an increase of almost Rs 1.50. The fare hike has left people of Delhi fuming.
A passenger Dev Bharti says, “I will pay more I don't mind it but tell me will DTC put up a shed here? In this heat I may even die will the DTC do this?”
From Tuesday onwards you will be paying more to travel in New Delhi from auto rickshaw to the buses, it now has to be seen whether services will actually improve.
