Commuters unhappy with Kolkata's extended Metro line

Kolkata: Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee seem to have inaugurated the extended Metro rail line in Kolkata in a hurry as the commuters are facing a lot of problem.

Over 70,000 passengers reportedly avail the extended service daily. However, the Metro officials had anticipated only half of this number.

Still no additional trains have been allotted to this route till now.

The inadequate ticket counters and insufficient entry and exit gates lead to long queues which further worsen the situation.

“The escalators are non operational, the elevators don't work. We are finding it difficult to climb so many stairs,” says a commuter.

“The trains no longer run on time. No additional trains have been provided. The routes have been expanded but the number of rakes hasn't increased,” complains another commuter.

But the Metro officials say additional rakes are not likely to be added till the middle of next year.
