TNT motors dupes man into buying old Mercedes

New Delhi: Driving a Mercedes C Class has not been a smooth ride for 48-year-old Sanjeev Dutta. Dutta had moved court in 2004 after he discovered he was swindled into buying an older variant of the car.

He had bought the car in 2003 from Delhi's TNT Motors with the promise that it was the latest model in the series, but later Dutta found out that this was untrue.

"This was a limited edition model. It wasn't even registered with the transport authority and it wasn't the latest. The latest was C200K," says he.

What's worse, Dutta was charged the price of a C200 - Rs 22.5 lakh, for the C180K. Although the sale documents mention the car's correct model, nowhere does it say that it's a limited edition model.

"Generally a limited edition car is given at a cheaper rate or given some other facilities but I have paid extra. Later these people came to me and said that if I want they will change the logo from C-180 to C200," says Dutta.

In a letter dated August 2003, Daimler Chrysler had admitted that the car was actually a limited edition model and five years after he initiated legal proceedings, the consumer court has finally ruled in Dutta's favour.

Daimler Chrysler has been ordered to refund Sanjeev Dutta the full cost of the vehicle and also pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh & Rs 20,000 for the financial losses and as the cost of litigation.
