Chennai: Concerns over superstar Rajnikants health have been easing.
The condition of Rajinikanth, who was admitted to the Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC) on May 13, was stable and his vital parameters are fine.
While reports suggest that the 61 year old has been put on dialysis after developing kidney problems, doctors maintain that he was shifted to the ICU just to improve his breathing pattern and to keep a close eye on his health.
For thousands of his fans, it's been an anxious few hours after the superstar was shifted to the ICU and put on dialysis.
Rajinikanth was initially hospitalised due to recurrent respiratory infection and gastro-intestinal problems. He was earlier admitted to hospital on April 29 - the first day of shoot of his new film Raana and then again on May 4.
Rajinikanth's wife Latha addressed a press conference outside the Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre in Chennai where the actor is undergoing treatment and assured his fans and well wishers that there is no need to worry.
"Rajini was moved to the ICU because it is a sterile place. He is getting complete medical attention there. He had an infection. We are taking good care of him," Latha said.
"The superstar is fine, there is nothing wrong with him. Theser are just rumours as you know. My request to all his fans and well wishers all over the world, not to take it seriously, it's just a rumour," said Rajinikanth's son-in-law actor Dhanush at SRMC.
Chairman and Director of Cardiac Care Centre of Shri Ramachandra Medical Centre Dr S Thanikachalam said that Rajini has been cheerful and also cracked jokes. He also spoke to his family, said Dr Thanikachalam
"A team of doctors is looking after Rajini. Rajini is a hale and healthy man. A gastro-intestinal infection led to gastric and respiratory problem. Rajini had a normal meal today of two idlis and a wada," said Thanikachalam.
Meanwhile, the superstar's fans have been praying for him with even Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan wishing him a speedy recovery.
"Rajnikant is improving gradually. he informs me, today by sms.. we hope and pray that he recovers as soon as possible .. our prayers," Amitabh tweeted.
Even though Rajnikanth is still in hospital, the first schedule of 'Raana' - including a song featuring Deepika Padukone - has already been canned. Produced by Eros International and Rajinikanth's daughter Soundarya, this film's budget is touted to be over Rs 100 crore - and naturally, its director, KS Ravikumar is hoping to have the superstar back on the sets by July when the 2nd schedule of the film is slated to be shot.
