New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday said the government was looking into every possible way of restoring confidence of minorities in the wake of attacks on Christians in Orissa and Karnataka and the Jamia Nagar encounter here between suspected militants and police.

The PM gave this assurance to a delegation of Muslim leaders of Congress and told them that he will take a decision soon on the important issue.

According to former union minister Salman Khurshid who was a member of the delegation, the PM shared their concern over attempts to spoil the atmosphere in the country by certain vicious elements.

The leaders also wanted that Congress should tighten its base wherever it is in power so as to ensure that the public confidence is restored.

"PM expressed concern over the incidents and said that he would look seriously into every possible way to restore the confidence of the minorities and that he will take a decision soon on the issue," Khurshid said.

The delegation, which had also met Congress president Sonia Gandhi two days back, consisted of K Rahman Khan, AICC general secretary Mohsina Kidwai, C K Jaffer Sharief, AICC minority department chief Imran Kidwai and AICC minority department secretary Anees Durrani.
