New Delhi: The fact that Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan is going all out to campaign for Samajwadi Party by glorifying its governance in Uttar Pradesh has the Congress vexed.

The party on Saturday sought the Election Commission's interference in banning advertisements that feature Bachchan extolling Mulayam Singh and the Samajwadi Party.

"Amitabh Bachchan is using harsh words and indulging in false propaganda in the ads," PTI quoted state party president Salman Khursheed as saying.

In the series of advertisements carried out in print and electronic media, Bachchan says that contrary to popular belief, the state has a very low rate of crime.

"Uttar Pradesh mein hai dum, kyunki jurm yahan hain kam," he says. The ads goes on to highlight the achievements of the Mulayam Singh Yadav government.

And the Congress, which is surely not amused, demands the EC should take action against the Samajwadi Party for sponsoring such advertisements. The party has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Election Commissioner.

It isn't just the Congress, fellow film star and Jan Morcha leader Raj Babbar on Saturday alluded that it did not behoove the great film star to act as the state's "brand Ambassador" despite the Nithari killings.
