Coalgate: Congress MP Vijay Darda named in CBI FIR, denies charges

Congress MP Vijay Darda has been named in the CBI FIR on coal blocks allocation in the capacity of a Director of one of the benefitting companies. Speaking to IBN18 Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai, Darda defended himself and denied the allegations.

In its FIR on JLD Yavatmal Energy Limited, which bagged Fatehpur East Coal Block in Chhattisgarh, CBI has named Darda along with his son Devendra and other former and present directors of the company.

Following is an excerpt from the interview with Vijay Darda:

Rajdeep Sardesai: All these coal blocks your opponents are saying are there because you were someone politically connected, that is why you got them. You had no experience in mining, you got them because you are politically connected, you didn't develop those blocks, you were only sitting on them.

Vijay Darda: I am shocked to know about the filing of the case, we are denying all the allegations.

Rajdeep Sardesai: As shareholders did you benefit or not?

Vijay Darda: I deny it, this is wrong. The truth will come out. I didn't get any coal block because I am a Congress MP. I got them on the basis of my merit.

Rajdeep Sardesai: You didn't develop the coal. The Jaiswal family sold the blocks and earned hefty profits which the share holders got as well.

Vijay Darda: This is all wrong, these charges are all wrong. The truth will be revealed.

Rajdeep Sardesai: You are saying that you didn't gain any profits?

Vijay Darda: No I didn't earn any profits, I will co-operate with any agency probing the charges and the truth will come out.
