CNN-IBN

New Delhi: The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party will hold another round of discussions on Tuesday to finalise seat sharing for Maharashtra Assembly elections.

A final decision on the seats sharing is likely to be taken by Tuesday evening.

Of late there have been conflicting statements coming from senior leaders of both the parties even as they claim to have "nearly reached an agreement" on seat sharing.

Nominations for the Assembly elections have to be filed by September 25.

Senior Congress leader Vilasrao Deshmukh has said that the list of candidates will be announced on Tuesday.

"There were some seat changing issues in Mumbai and Pune which we are discussing about. We will be through with everything today evening. List will be announced anytime today," said Deshmukh on Tuesday morning.

According to the seat sharing formula for the October 13 elections Congress will contest 174 seats while NCP will put up its candidates on the remaining 114 seats for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly.

The alliance has also planned a joint campaign by Congress President Sonia Gandhi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar and a common manifesto to thwart the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena challenge.
