Cong, Prajarajyam snap ties, part ways

Hyderabad: Another Congress bastion, Andhra Pradesh is in the throes of a controversy. Its alliance with Chiranjeevi's party, Prajarajyam is history, now.

Former chief minister YSR Reddy's son Jagan's power tussle with K Rosaiah for the chief minister's chair has affected the Congress party's tie-up with the Prajarajyam party.

With the Congress and the Prajarajyam alliance falling apart, it has dealt a severe blow to the smaller party ahead of the upcoming Municipal elections in Hyderabad.

It has turned out to be a partnership which ended even before it really began.

This was much to the disappointment of chief minister K Rosaiah who was hoping the alliance would offset Jagan's powerful clout in the party in Andhra Pradesh. It seems to be a game plan that the Jagan supporters' camp clearly saw through.

The party's state leadership however has tried to play down this conflict.

Andhra Pradesh PCC president D Srinivas said, "It is a political party and you have to understand there will be different schools of thought. We will be looking at every opinion."

The U-turn was also a big setback for actor-turned politician Chiranjeevi who was looking forward to a political recovery after his party's dismal show in the general elections.

But they agree this is better than getting caught in the crossfire between the two factions of Congress.

A former Rajya Sabha MP and senior member of the Political Advisory Committee of Prajarajyam, C Ramachandraiah said, "Both, the Congress and the Prajarajyam party will now be contesting alone in the municipal elections on November 23."

But contesting the municipal elections after this fallout will prove to be a litmus test for both; the two warring factions of Congress and the Prajarajyam party.
