Kolkata: The Congress on Monday said that it had not ruled out an alliance with the Trinamool Congress for panchayat elections in West Bengal in May.
"At the grassroot level political parties forge loose alliances that cut across party lines because of prevailing local conditions," new West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee president Priyaranjan Dasmunsi told PTI.
Dasmunsi, the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, there are instances of rival parties reaching an “understanding” for panchayat polls.
Dasmunsi will meet district Congress committee presidents on February 23 to decide the party's strategy on the panchayat polls.
Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has ruled out an alliance with the Congress.
