Cong, SP can't reach deal over seat-sharing

New Delhi: Struggle for cementing alliances continues. It’s down to who will blink first in the shadow boxing match between the Congress and the Samajwadi party over the seat sharing in Uttar Pradesh as both sides are taking jabs to test each other's patience instead of landing a knock out punch.

The constant public sparring between Congress' Digvijay Singh and SP's Amar Singh has kept the uncertainty going.

The Samajwadi Party also tried to provoke the Congress by challenging Manmohan Singh's candidature as prime minister.

Amar Singh said, " If the destiny provides any opportunity to Sharad Pawar, we are not going to object to that and if any such opportunity comes in the way of Mulayam Singh, Sharad Pawar will not be having any objection to that."

Finally, it took Digvijay Singh to calm things down.

Digvijay Singh said, "Things have changed drastically after the delimitation and it's time to start fresh talks."

But both, especially the SP, realises that the real threat comes from Mayawati and the only way to fight her is to stick together.

Troubles don’t end there, NCP too is making things difficult. It wants to increase its stake in Maharastra.

Not that the BJP is finding things easy.

BJP MP Chandan Mitra has been dashed off to Bhubaneshwar to pacify BJP which wants more.

BJP general secretary Arun Jaitely met Bihar CM.Nitish Kumar to reason out with him too. If Paswan-RJD come together, it could be a formidable challenge to the BJP

Such is the political reality that the two national parties the BJP and the Congress realise that despite their occasional aggression, they will have to bow to pressure from the regional allies and realising their power, these allies are going in for a hard bargain.
