Cong, TDP woo Chiranjeevi to form govt in AP

Hyderabad: The king of Telegu cinema could now be the kingmaker in the Andhra Pradesh assembly. With a hung house predicted in the state, Chiranjeevi’s party Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) holds the key to unlocking the doors.

Both the Congress and the Telgu Desam Party (TDP) are hoping to swing Chiranjeevi’s support.

“They started the party against the Congress and we are also fighting against the Congress so if tomorrow they extend support we’ll have no problem,” says TDP leader K Yerran Naidu.

“TRP is a new party. We will see after the elections,” says Congress finance minister K Rosaiah.

The importance of the PRP is in the impact it is projected to have in impacting the vote of both the two top parties.

The CNN IBN post poll survey shows that Chiranjeevi will get 14 per cent of the vote. But the party remains hopeful of bagging much more than the number predicted.

“A political party should act in such a way that it should not close any doors post-elections. They should keep all the options open and the PRP is also doing that,” says PRP general secretary Allu Aravind.

At the state level , it seems inevitable that the balance will tilt to that party behind which Chiranjeevi will throw his weight. But the big question is who will get lucky the Congress or the TDP?

Sources in the PRP say, the traditional caste fight between Chiranjeevi's Kapu and Chandrababu Naidu's Kamma community will have the megastar looking to support the Congress instead.

At the national level, while the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is looking at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to fulfill its Telanagana dream, the TDP is claiming to give the public an alternate non-BJP and non-Congress government in the form of a Third Front.

The NDA and UPA are meanwhile looking to lure Chiranjeevi in their respective camps.

But as always, it will be the crucial day of counting that will make all the parties bond and re-bond with each other.
