New Delhi: Tamil actor Rajinikanth’s latest flick Sivaji may have won over millions of fans in India and abroad but the film does not seem to have gone down too well with Congress Party.
On Monday, a Congress worker, protesting a scene from the film, filed a petition demanding the movie be banned in India and overseas.
The petition highlights a scene in Sivaji that shows photographs of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh lying on the villain's office table.
The petitioner has claimed such a scene sheds bad light on the Congress Party and demanded a compensation of Rs 50 crore for the damage done.
The petition also seeks a response from the State Information Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, the Censor Board, Rajinikanth, AVM, Director of the movie Shankar and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Reportedly shot for Rs 80 crore, Sivaji was released across the country on June 15. The film is about the protagonist's fight against black money in society, which Rajnikanth does in his own trademark style with a combination of punchy dialogue, comedy, romance, songs and colourful costumes.
The film has been a superhit not just in South India, but a large number of North Indians and locals, many of whom were drawn to the theatres simply because of the tremendous hype around the film in recent weeks.
