New Delhi: The war of words between the BJP and the Congress simply refuses to die down. This time Rajnath Singh has also been caught in the cross-fire.
Prime Minister Manmohan’s Singh’s taunt that the BJP fears Modi raised the opposition’s hackles.
BJP’s PM nominee, L K Advani’s replied in the classic, political style of lateral and indirect responses.
Manmohan Singh had said, "The BJP central leadership is scared of Modi. That’s why (there is) the urgency to anoint Advani,” to which Advani responded, "It is now clear that the Congress is convinced that they have no one to take on Modi in Gujarat.
But this drew another player in the field and got BJP President Rajnath Singh’s name bandied about in the political cross-fire.
Congress Spokesman, Dr Shakeel Ahmed commented, “It’s a tradition in the BJP to accommodate leaders who lose in the states at the Centre. Like Rajnath Singh, who was made party President after he lost in Uttar Pradesh."
Such verbal exchanges have become a common feature before elections. As for Gujarat, the electorate will judge, not party leaders.
