Congress-NCP face-off: Prithviraj Chavan the trigger, say sources

CNN-IBN | Updated Jul 21, 2012 at 01:52pm IST

Mumbai: It has now emerged that the real reason behind the NCP-Congress face off may not be the number two slot, but Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. Top NCP sources have confirmed that the NCP leadership wants the PM and Congress party President Sonia Gandhi to rein in the Maharashtra CM.

The NCP is reportedly worried about the corruption cases and investigations against several NCP ministers in the state.

The ministers under scanner include Pawar's nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and senior ministers Chaggan Bhujbal and Sunil Tatkare.

Pawar's right hand man in Delhi, Praful Patel has also been under fire in a CAG report on aircraft acquisition while Pawar himself has been targeted by Team Anna.

Chief Minister Chavan, meanwhile, will be in Delhi on Saturday to meet Sonia Gandhi aide Ahmed Patel.
