Himmatnagar (Gujarat): The Congress-led Central and Maharashtra governments are creating hurdles for raising the height of the Sardar Sarovar dam to 138 metres, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday.
"The Central Government and the Congress-led Maharashtra government are halting the installation of gates of the Dam and restricting work to attain a height of 138 metres. The obstructions are being laid in the name of rehabilitation (of the project affected people)," he said.
Modi was dedicating a Rs 421 crore project to provide irrigation and drinking water through pipeline from the Narmada canal at at Himmatnagar, 70 km from Ahmedabad.
Modi also asked the Central Government why the Sardar Sarovar Project on the Naramda river was not declared a national project and not included in the list of 13 national river projects.
