Congress leader Balram Jakhar's son shot dead

Chandigarh: Senior Congress leader Balram Jakhar's son Surinder Jakhar has been shot dead in Abohar in Punjab. Surinder was the chairman of the Indian Farmers Fertiliser Co-operative (IFFCO).

Initial reports claim that Surinder was accidentally shot at while he was in his farmhouse in Abohar. He reportedly received a gunshot wound in his head.

He was taken to the Civil Hospital in Abohar where doctors declared him dead.

The 56-year-old Jakhar was fatally wounded while cleaning his pistol, Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Ferozpur Surjit Singh said.
