In an interview to IBN18 Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai on the campaign trail in western UP, Akhilesh claimed that the Congress was trying to manipulate Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to avoid finishing fourth in the elections.
Following is the transcript of the interview with Akhilesh Yadav:
Rajdeep Sardesai: For you the Congress is coming fourth in these elections?
Akhilesh Yadav: If the EVMs machines are not tampered with, then the Congress will finish fourth.
Rajdeep Sardesai: You are saying that there is a possibility of EVMs being tempered with?
Akhilesh Yadav: I have heard some dummy EVMs have been confiscated, in Lucknow yesterday water seeped into some EVMs. This looks like some sort of a conspiracy.
Rajdeep Sardesai: You are saying that the Congress could tamper with the EVMs to win the elections?
Akhilesh Yadav: I have commented on this because if the votes of the people are counted then the Congress will finish fourth. If the EVMs are not tampered with, the Congress will end up on the fourth position.
Rajdeep Sardesai: You don't trust the Election Commission?
Akhilesh Yadav: I trust the Election Commission but I am just expressing an opinion.
The Chief Electoral Officer of UP Umesh Sinha has refuted the charge made by Akhilesh Yadav. "As far as these charges are concerned, anyone one can say anything, but as far as the worth of the EVMs is concerned, I am doubly sure that there is nothing that can be manipulated," Sinha said.
