Could she be the latest member of the Gandhi family entering the political turf? It is a dream most Congress members have been having for a long time. The sentiment has now been aggravated with Priyanka suggesting she could consider campaigning in other parts of the state as well.
Priyanka's brother Rahul has had his sleeves rolled up for the mega battle of UP for the last couple of years. Congress high command does not want to leave anything to chance.
Any indecisive vote or any community that may be tempted, but not sure, has to be tapped into.
Priyanka, a mother of two, with a smile and style like that of her grandmother could well be the trump card to tap into the last minute voter.
"The brother needs the sister, but moreover, the country needs Priyanka ji. We had thought that she would serve the nation even before Rahul, but she let her brother first," said Asha Pal Singh, a Congress worker.
"Wherever she walks, the world goes with her. Even when her enemies see her, they move along with her," said Allu Miya, a supporter.
For the opposition though, ignoring Priyanka's limited political foray seems to be the best strategy.
In the past, Priyanka has campaigned in family pocketboroughs of Amethi and Rae Barelly along with his mother and brother. Congress now wants to play this star card all across UP.
A crowd puller, she certainly is. But will Priyanka Gandhi be the X-factor for the Congress in the elections?
The party certainly hopes so and isn't ruling out bringing her in as election day nears. But the question is – will her charm work beyond Amethi and Rae Barelly.
