New Delhi: In the uncertain world of politics, no one is willing to take any chances. Certainly not the Congress, which knows that the rug can be pulled from under its feet by its coalition partners.
The party has postponed key decisions because the present period is considered to be inauspicious in several parts of North India. The Congress denies such insinuations but not vehemently enough.
"Factually, our decisions are neither taken nor postponed for these reasons," Congress Spokesperson Satyavrat Chaturvedi says.
Strikingly, BJP is not the only party to go by the Hindu almanac. Even the Congress finds the ongoing shradh fortnight inauspicious. And quite recently, HRD minister Arjun Singh refused to support a ban on astrological studies.
"Perhaps they have their own faith and own likings," Chaturvedi says.
History reveals that the jyotish forecasts and Congress have never been divorced. In fact, Indira Gandhi’s consultation of astrologers and her trips to temples all over India were publicised to spread a subtle message about her Hindu roots.
Here's a list of what was not done during the past fortnight:
- Party organization vacancies were not filled.
- Crucial portfolios including External Affairs still don't have ministers.
- Nominees for bye-elections have not been decided.
- The Chief Minister's conclave is starting on the first day of Navratras.
