New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has lambasted the United Progressive Alliance government and said that the Left was looking for a third alternative.

Buddhadeb said the 'Congress-led UPA alliance is failing miserably' on every front.

"We are looking for alternatives. Our All India Party Congress will begin in Coimbatore in two days and there we will discuss the third alternative," he said at a Left Front felicitation programme in Kolkata on Thursday.

The programme was organised to celebrate the fourth consecutive win of CPI-M-led Left Front government in Tripura.

Relations between the Congress and the Left Front have been on a downward spiral for the past few months over the Indo-US civil nuclear deal and the economic policies.

Just a few days back, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram had without naming the Left parties accused them of wielding power without responsibility saying some 60 members of Parliament criticised everything being done by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and him to improve the economy.

"What do they want us to do? Do they only want us to distribute poverty in this country? Those who say the market growth is irrelevant and those who say the growth only helps the rich are the worst enemies of the poor," he had said.
