New Delhi: The first day of the Lok Sabha in the Monsoon Session was aborted within 40 minutes after it started, for the BJP-led Opposition created an uproar over Government's 'failure' to contain terrorism and price rise.

Speaker Somnath Chatterjee adjourned the House for the day after slogan-shouting Opposition members stormed the Well demanding suspension of the Question Hour to debate these issues.

As NDA members, including those from BJP-Shiv Sena, BJD, Akali Dal, shouted 'Jo sarkar mehangai na rok sake, jo sarkar atankwad na rok sake, woh sarkar nikami hai (a Government which cannot contain price rise and terrorism, that is an incompetent Government)', the Speaker said he had no choice but to adjourn the house till Tuesday.

Chatterjee said he was ready to allow the adjournment motion immediately after the Question Hour.

"You had solemnly assured me that Question Hour will be allowed. You are going back on assurance. I am very, very sorry. It is very, very unfortunate," he told the Opposition benches amid continuous slogan-shouting.

The Speaker even had a poser for the Leader of the Opposition L K Advani 'whether the House will be allowed to function or not'?

"I kept my promise. But unfortunately, you have not kept your promise," Chatterjee told the Opposition benches, pointing out that he had been promised by their leaders that the Question Hour would be allowed.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, who was seen holding hectic consultations with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and leaders of allies, detested the Opposition behaviour and asserted that the Treasury benches will "not submit" to such disruption.

"We will not concede to their demand for adjournment," Dasmunsi said, adding the opposition was 'afraid to discuss the issues. "The whole nation is watching what they are doing," he said.
