Ranchi: Mahendra Singh Dhoni, it seems, has the knack of making it to headlines.

During his last visit to his hometown, Ranchi, the local hero was mobbed while taking a haircut. This time his Mitsubishi Pajero with black tinted glasses was stopped by an inspector. The policeman has now been transferred.

Sarfuddin Ahmad, the Traffic Inspector who fined Dhoni, says: "I was posted at Firayalal for the last eight to ten months, but this morning I was told to report at another location."

Sarfuddin is probably paying for an act which fetched him space in the headlines. But the inpsector says he did not fine Dhoni as the cricketer had a letter of permission from the authorities.

"Ek letter dikhaya, District Commissioner ka (He showed a letter from the District Commissioner, so I had to let him off. He's a big cricketer), Sarfuddin says.

So did Dhoni actually have permission? The ace cricketer who has handled many a googly with aplomb, looked clueless faced with this bouncer.

"I was stopped by traffic police. That's all for now," Dhoni, says, indicating that he had no permission.

Senior police officials are busy passing the buck.

M L Meena, the Traffic Superintendent of Police offered no comments.

So was Dhoni's car exempted? Or was he let off because of his celebrity status? The unsavoury incident has left the police with many embarrasing questions to answer.
