Cops claim progress in Soumya murder probe

New Delhi: A week into the investigations of journalist Soumya Vishwanathan's murder, the Delhi Police has a few leads. Broken pieces of glass found at the murder site led the police to a BMW-SUV, but after tracking down the car and its owner, the police have ruled out their involvement.

Delhi Police PRO, Rajan Bhagat says, "CCTV footage captured the car and showed that it's rear view mirror was already damaged when the car was getting out of a mall in gurgaon at 8:30 pm on September 30."

Officials say, the search for the vehicle started when the broken shards of glass did not match Soumya's car. The cops revealed it was easy to narrow down the search as there are only five such BMW-SUVs in north India.

Investigations showed the owner to be a resident of Vasant Kunj, who is now reportedly out of the country. The police have given a clean chit to the owner after talking to a family member.

But the police version has some glaring discerpancies.

  • Isn't it too much of a coincidence that broken pieces of glass were found at the same spot as Soumya's car and that the owner, like Soumya, was a resident of Vasant Kunj?
  • How was the CCTV camera able to capture such a small detail as a side view mirror?
  • Why haven't the police contacted the owner?
  • Most importantly, if the BMW has no role in the murder, why are the police conducting mock runs and reconstructing the possible sequence of events?

The police repeatedly rule out the involvement of the owner, though it is not clear who was driving the BMW. With several such loopholes, it's hard to figure out where the truth lies.
