Bangalore: Nadeem Kashmiri's face is synonymous with the HSBC Internet fraud.
But according to intelligence sources, there's conclusive evidence to prove that he could be linked with terrorist groups like the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and the ISI.
"He had the knowledge of some contact with the LeT and the ISI. It has been conclusively proved with brain mapping. Target questions were put to him and it clearly indicated his links," IG Economic Offences Wing, Sushant Mahapatra, revealed.
Nadeem is in judicial custody till July 27. A narco-analysis test will be performed on him on July 21 to further gauge his involvement with terrorist groups.
Intelligence agencies say this new form of economic terrorism is far more dangerous as it exposes India's vulnerability to terrorist groups.
Terrorists targeting economic establishments are not a new phenomenon, but this latest disclosure that Nadeem could have been inducted into HSBC by the LeT or the ISI clearly shows how far terrorist groups are willing to go to spread their network.
"Financial terrorism forms an important part and they are seeing whether they can penetrate and how vulnerable is this digital economy. This was like a probing mission and they have succeeded," says Mahapatra.
