Patna: The academic community in Patna is angry about the slow pace of investigations in the noted historian and a Patna University Professor Papiya Ghosh’s murder case.
The professor and her maid were stabbed to death at Ghosh’s residence in the posh Pataliputra colony on December 2. It’s been more than 10 days after the murder, but the police are yet to make a breakthrough in the case.
The case has even drawn Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s attention. Dr Singh has asked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for an update on the case.
"The Prime Minister called me as the entire academic community has been shocked by this event. The investigations are on,” Kumar says.
But academics aren’t convinced by the Chief Minister's assurance.
"It's surprising that the Bihar CM is appreciating the police who have been so inefficient in finding any leads in this investigation,” says a Professor of Hindi, Meena Tiwari.
The noted historian's murder even rocked the Bihar Assembly when Opposition parties disrupted the proceedings on Monday.
“We'll not let the House progress until a CBI enquiry is made into the matter,” says Rabri Devi.
With the Ghosh murder case getting the political fraternity in a tizzy, the state police have its work cut it out.
