Mumbai: Pune terror suspect Abdul Samad Bhatkal's family has released a video claiming that he was attending a wedding in Karnataka on the day of the German Bakery blast.
Two days after his arrest, the family of Bhatkal claims he is being framed in the February 13 German Bakery blast in which 17 people were killed and 50 others injured.
The family says that on the day of the blast he was in Bhatkal district of Karnataka attending a wedding. They have released a video showing the 23-year-old Bhatkal at the wedding as evidence.
Meanwhile, sources have told CNN-IBN that Maharashtra ATS has not yet got any major leads from questioning Bhatkal. He is likely to be taken to Pune soon.
The investigators have been claiming that the CCTV image on the blast night showed a young man wearing a cap outside Pune's German Bakery. They say the man is the prime suspect in the blast and is Bhatkal.
Strangely, while Home Minister P Chidambaram has publicly complimented the Mahrashtra ATS and Pune Police for cracking the case, the police booked Bhatkal only on charges of being involved in an Arms Act case of 2009 registered in Byculla and not for the blast.
He was sent to six days of police custody, which is rare for an Arms Act case. He was arrested at Mangalore's Bajpe airport on Monday.
Mumbai lawyer Mobin Solkar will represent Bhatkal.
