Click to play videoNew Delhi: A day after up police made sensational revelations in the Arushi murder case, there is a new twist to the story.
On Friday the police said Dr Rajesh Talwar had murdered his 14-year-old daughter and his manservant Hemraj because they "objected to his extra-marital affair with Dr Anita Durrani", a co-worker at his private clinic.
On Saturday Dr Anita Durrani said the authorities never questioned her and their claims were false.
On Saturday there were reports that Dr Talwar had been sent to judicial custody and his wife and Dr Durrani had been detained for questioning.
Dr Durrani told CNN-IBN the allegations were “baseless” and police had never questioned her. “They didn’t question me even once,” she said, challenging the police’s claim that they had interrogated her for many hours.
Dr Durrani said she was in Dehradun on May 15, the night Arushi and Hemraj were murdered.
She and her husband returned to Noida and rushed to Talwar's house after learning about the murders, she said. "We found Rajesh and his wife Nupur crying. The couple said Hemraj might have killed Arushi," she said.
Dr Durrani said she had known the Talwars for many years and their families were good friends.
Arushi was like a daughter to me, she said. “I used to drop my daughter in the same school where Arushi was studying. Many times in the afternoon, I have picked both of them and brought them home."
Asked why the police would make baseless allegations against her, Dr Duranni said, "I don't know. I can't say. We depend upon the police, but what they have said is all fraud."
Inspector General of Police, Meerut range, Gurdarshan Singh, told a press conference on Friday that Dr Talwar was angry with Arushi and Hemraj.
"Talwar was having an extramarital affair which Arushi knew about. Hemraj also knew about it and spread the word among his friends. This angered Talwar," Singh said.
"Arushi used to discuss her father's extra-marital relations with Hemraj," he alleged.
The police also alleged that Talwar is said to have murdered Arushi at their home in Noida because "she had stumbled upon his affair and had been discussing it with her friends".
Police claimed that Hemraj also knew about it and had been talking to others about it.
