Srinagar: A forensic team headed by DIG, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmed, will exhume the body of fake encounter victim Abdul Rahman Padder in Ganderbal on Tuesday.
Rahman, a carpenter from Kokernag, went missing in December last year. A police probe later showed he was branded a terrorist and killed in Ganderbal by the Special Operations Group of the state police.
Meanwhile, two police constables are in custody in connection with the incident. The SP of Ganderbal, H R Parihar, and his deputy have been attached to the IG's office, and they will now be supervised to prevent any tampering with evidence.
It has been learnt that this is not the first time Parihar is involved in a case of human rights violation. He was indicted by the J&K High Court for the custodial killing of Kashmir University photographer Fayaz Ahmad Shiekh in 1997.
“People should be convinced by our actions that we are not brushing the issue under the carpet and have brought it to the fore. And whatever comes out in the course of the investigation would be made public. And we will take the matter to the court,” says SM Sahay IG, Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the Ganderbal victim, Rehman's family is inconsolable over his death.
“I went to several ministers to ask them to free my brother. All of them assured me that he would be freed. But nothing has happened till now,” says Rehman’s sister, Halima.
