Mumbai: Corporate India is getting ready to celebrate Mumbai's grand Marathon that will be held on Sunday.
Even at 0545 hrs IST in the morning when there is a slight chill in the air 22 people from business information provider Dun and Bradstreet, dressed in smart looking yellow T-shirts are busy practising for the Marathon.
They start with the warm- up exercises and as the muscles relax, the daily dose of running begins.
For corporate honchos in the city, the Marathon is just a way of giving back what the city gives them.
"It brings out the true spirit. It shows how much I care for the city," says Jayesh Bahadur, Regional Manager, West and South, Dun and Bradstreet.
Corporate participation has always been an integral part of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, be it for a day of fun or leisure. But this year the trend is changing. Corporate executives want to run for NGOs in order to help them achieve their goals and objectives.
For Vipul Jain the Marathon is a great way of achieving what he has always wanted. Associated with the Catalyst for Social Action, an NGO that strives for child adoption, Jain is running the Marathon for the fourth consecutive year.
While the last three years was fun, this time it is serious business.
"It gives us a great opportunity to raise money for a worthy cause," Jain, CEO and MD of Kale Consultants, says.
Catalyst for Social Action's Bharati Dasgupta says, "For an event like this, the first thing it does for us is create awareness."
So come Sunday and Mumbai will run be it for fun or for a cause just like how these corporate honchos want.
