Ludhiana-based property dealer and garment businessman, Amit Malhotra, bought this VIP number in an online auction conducted by Hutch through a phone conference.
"It was my strong desire to have a unique mobile number, which prompted me to spend the sum," says he by way of explanation.
Bidding for these VIP numbers began on Tuesday and the numbers were revealed on Thursday evening. But how did how did Malhotra arrange this astronomical sum?
"I took a loan from my relatives and many of my friends also chipped in so I could purchase this number. They helped me realise my dream," says he.
However, strangely, Malhotra has no intentions of clinging on to his exorbitant acquisition. After two or three months he plans to hand it over to his friends.
